Programme 2027 – How The Week Will Work

Tai Chi Caledonia offers a range of options for attending, making it accessible to all, from beginner to adept. You can join us on a day, weekend, whole or part week basis, residential or non-residential.

The Weekend Sessions

Our programme starts on Saturday morning at 9:00 with a brief introductory meeting in the Main Marquee.  The weekend sessions include choices of 48 x 45 minute sessions allowing you to get a taste of a variety of approaches to Tai Chi & Chinese internal arts.  Your teachers will provide you with more detail of their weekend sessions at this Saturday morning meeting.

The Week-long Sessions

From Monday – Thursday you will train 2.5 hours each morning and afternoon, working on 2 separate disciplines (1 each from A and B) for 5 hours per day in total.  This will, over the four days, give you 10 hours of intensive training in two topics.

Breakfast Wushu Wakeup

Tai Chi Caledonia 2027 will not see the return of the ever-inspiring Sergio Uzzo and Simona Longeri to lead us in the always popular session based on Baguazhang principles as this year they will be presenting a Monday – Thursday workshop.

Instead, from 7.30 – 9.30 each morning, starting on Sunday, the equally inspiring Javier Arnanz will lead you through his morning wakeup session based on a variety of principles.  His idea is to have a fun and energising morning practice, using a combination of some martial arts exercises, footwork, applications and Qigong to get everyone moving and ready for the day.

Start your day the energetic way.

Early Morning Qigong

Or – for those not as energetic as Javier at that time in the morning, or who just need a bit more sleep, – there will be a qigong session each morning from 8.30 – 9.30 from Sunday onwards.

These will be led by a different teacher each day.

Tui Shou

After dinner most evenings there will be the opportunity to improve your push hands skills in a non-competitive situation.

While more experienced pushers engage in free pushing, there will be a short, separate introductory instruction period for those inexperienced in this discipline, before they join the others.  Just a reminder: this instruction will be only for the inexperienced!

This introduction will be split into two groups with Judith van Drooge leading one purely for women.

We are aware that there is sometimes a reluctance for people to join the main group after the introductory session. Perhaps this is because they can see some of the more experienced looking a bit “competitive” when playing with each other.  However, these player usually know each other and their abilities and this is always by mutual agreement.

Most of the “experienced” pushers here were first introduced to this discipline at  previous Caledonias or at a similar event that takes place in Hanover. They are therefore well aware of what it is like to go from an introductory session to  joining in with the general pushing population and so will accommodate you accordingly. If  you are in any doubt then just remind them when you join in.

Remember, this is not a competitive activity but one to allow you to put principles into practice and grow as the week progresses. Tai Chi Caledonia is a great opportunity to get a grounding in this in a non-threatening, non-competitive  environment, which we would encourage you to grasp.
